The mission was to kill the most wanted man in the world--an operation of such magnitude that it couldn’t be handled by just any military or intelligence force. The best America had to offer was needed. As such, the task was handed to roughly forty members of America’s supersecret counterterrorist unit formerly known as 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta; more popularly, the elite and mysterious unit Delta Force.
The American generals were flexible. A swatch of hair, a drop of blood, or simply a severed finger wrapped in plastic would be sufficient. Delta's orders were to go into harm's way and prove to the world bin Laden had been terminated.
These Delta warriors had help: a dozen of the British Queen’s elite commandos, another dozen or so Army Green Berets, and six intelligence operatives from the CIA who laid the groundwork by providing cash, guns, bullets, intelligence, and interrogation skills to this clandestine military force. Together, this team waged modern siege of epic proportions against bin Laden and his seemingly impenetrable cave sanctuary burrowed deep inside the Spin Ghar Mountain range in eastern Afghanistan.
Over the years, since the battle ended, scores of news stories have surfaced offering tidbits of information about what actually happened in Tora Bora. Most of it is conjecture and speculation.
This is the real story of the operation, the first eyewitness account of the Battle of Tora Bora, and the first book to detail just how close Delta Force came to capturing bin Laden, how close U.S. bombers and fighter aircraft came to killing him, and exactly why he slipped through our fingers. Lastly, this is an extremely rare inside look at the shadowy world of Delta Force and a detailed account of these warriors in battle.

Review
"Mr. President if you had let these guys run this war it would have been over by now. Read this book now, all of you. [Kill Bin Laden is] the best book ever written by a special operations insider. This guy Fury’s men are the real-deal Delta Force operators. You need to know what happened at Tora Bora, and this great book will tell you." --Colonel David Hunt, U.S. Army (Ret.), New York Times bestselling author of They Just Don’t Get It and On The Hunt, and FOX News Special Ops and Counterterrorism Analyst "Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta is without doubt one of the most fearsome military units ever assembled, with many camp followers seeking with only limited success to record its deeds. There is only one way to know what really happened in any Delta mission, and that is to be there. Delta officer Dalton Fury didn't just take part in the battle of Tora Bora, he commanded all the special operations troops, both U.S. and British, who were there. Kill Bin Laden is a proud, riveting, warts-and-all account of that battle, one of the most important special operations missions of all time." --Michael Smith, author of KILLER ELITE: The Inside Story of America’s Most Secret Special Operations Team “An important, must-read book about real warriors. A story that so positively reflects what on-the-ground decision making, professional acceptance of risk, and maximizing interagency cooperation can do. Dalton Fury shows us with amazing detail and insight what highly trained and motivated special operators can accomplish successfully in combat out of all proportion to their numbers.” --Cofer Black, former chief of the Central Intelligence Agency's Counter Terrorist Center

Go inside the Tora Bora hunt
By Gordon Ewasiuk
Conventional history says Osama Bin Laden escaped the U.S. manhunt during the invasion of Afghanistan. This book goes behind the scenes and provides amazing details about how Bin Laden managed to do it. The book talks about the Delta Force commandos and other Special Forces elements that were on-scene and actively pursuing Bin Laden. Some of the stories are addictive and yet so frustrating. One example is how the U.S. forces were prevented from taking the lead in the hunt or even pursuing Bin Laden into Pakistan. Delta Force commandos actually had to hide from the press officials who were on the battlefield!
The tactics and equipment used in the hunt, despite the author's attempt to obfuscate them, were interesting.
This book is a wonderful way to get lost in the mountains of Tora Bora for a few hours. Dalton Fury's writing style is easy to read and follow. He doesn't thump his chest in patriotic pride or wrap himself in the flag when telling his stories like some authors. He just tells a story in layman's terms. No attempts to add excitement and inflate accomplishments. Just the facts. It's a great read.

Catch him if you can
By Mahlon Christensen
Kill Bin Laden offers a thrilling "boots on the ground" narrative of the hunt for UBL in the Tora Bora region of eastern Afghanistan in December 2001. Written by Dalton Fury (not his real name)a former Delta Force operator who had tactical command of the team assigned to go into Tora Bora and eliminate Usama.
Refreshingly, Fury keeps his political opinions to himself while still managing to deftly demonstrate how political wrangling in the upper echelons of the U.S. command structure, as well as the Muj, had hampered his team's ability to complete their mission, and allowed UBL to escape into Pakistan.
The book is a great primer on small unit tactics and doctrine. The author writes in a rather dry, clipped "just the facts" type of style, but it's still a fascinating read because he was there.

A true life account of a top Delta unit
By Donna
With all of my exposure to major motion pictures and television movies, television series, and the never ending series of print/television news about war and its participants I found it even more difficult to decide which book(s) had the most credible authors and contents. I assume that given all of that exposure most people have at least heard of the Delta force (or Delta something or other) and know that these "units" are made up of the top elite of the armed services members. I was reading a discussion board comprised of some ex-Delta and other armed services units where were heavily critizing "Dalton Fury" the author of Kill Bin Laden because his story and revelations are seen as some sort of betrayal to the other members and the country. I can't recall Fury's real name now but these guys knew it and were directing their criticisms directly at him claiming that they and the author had signed papers that they would not publish anything without permission from the government. The author did submit his book to the government but the government implicitly approved all of the contents due to a slip up so many were critical of the contents. Not one, however, claimed that the book was untrue or unfaithful to the truth, quite the opposite.
So that's why I chose this book and you should too. The author is one of the leaders who was there in the Pakistan Afghanistan border, near Tora Bora. He tells the truth behind what happened there after 9-11 and why the US was allegedly unable to capture or kill bin Laden. It shall never cease to amaze me just what these Delta units (and others like Navy Seals) are actual capable of doing and sustaining for days on end. All of the strenuous training, the research, the intelligence and endurance, not to mention the extremely high degree of personal danger under the worst sets of circumstances associated with mission after mission. Many of the missions are touched upon in the book which is a relatively easy book to read and enjoy. It also contains many footnotes which lead you to some really interesting government sites. These government sites not only support and add to the author's claims but contain a good deal of fascinating reading in and of themselves. You could spend hours reading the contents of these sites (write ups, statements, interviews, etc. about both familiar and unfamiliar events that have occurred in the past years.)
