A deadly new weapon hits the international arms market---and the only way to preserve the balance of power in the Mideast is to hijack the Iranian sub that carries it.
United States Navy Commander and Medal of Honor winner Dan Lenson has been handed another outside-the-box assignment. TAG Charlie, an elite team of active-duty sailors, SEALs, and civilian analysts, is tasked to investigate and defuse emerging naval threats around the globe. When the Skhval-K---an unstoppable rocket torpedo designed to destroy U.S. aircraft carriers---is demonstrated at a Moscow arms show, Dan tries to buy one so that the U.S. Navy can build countermeasures. But he’s lucky to escape with his life when he’s set up by Russia’s new counterespionage service.
When the Russians sell the new weapon to Iran and China instead, Dan decides that if he can’t buy it, he’ll steal it. But when a daring nighttime penetration of Iran’s largest naval base goes wrong too, Dan finds himself captaining a submarine he barely knows how to submerge, pursued by Iranian destroyers and sub-hunting aircraft through the shallow, hazardous Persian Gulf.
Authentic action and daring espionage combine in a timely thriller set in a hair-trigger military environment.

From Publishers Weekly
Poyer's fine military thriller, the 11th in his Dan Lenson series (after Korea Strait), provides what his fans have come to expect—tight structure, plenty of authentic technological detail and a hero who acts like a man rather than a cartoon superhero. When the Russians offer a powerful new rocket torpedo they've developed for sale to the world, the U.S. government sends Cdr. Dan Lenson, U.S.N., to purchase one. After the deal falls apart, Dan attempts to liberate one of the new weapons from a container ship headed for China. When that mission goes to hell, he and his team steal an Iranian submarine carrying one of the super torpedoes. From then on, we're submerged deep into Das Boot territory with Dan and his small crew playing cat and mouse with a deadly Iranian frigate. Those who relish naval action won't be able to come up for air until they turn the last page of this nail-biter. (Nov.)

Authentic action and daring espionage combine in this timely thriller from USA Today bestselling author David Poyer
“No one writes gritty, realistic military fiction better than David Poyer. No one.”—Stephen Coonts
As a member of TAG Charlie—an elite team of active-duty sailors, SEALs, and civilian analysts—United States Navy Commander and Medal of Honor winner Dan Lenson must defuse emerging naval threats around the globe. The deadly Skhval K, an unstoppable rocket torpedo designed to destroy U.S. aircraft carriers, definitely qualifies.
“Poyer [is] a master of authentic detail.”—Kirkus Reviews
When the Skhval-K is demonstrated at a Moscow arms show, Dan tries to buy one so that the U.S. Navy can build countermeasures. But when the Russians sell the new weapon to Iran and China instead, Dan decides that if he can’t buy it, he’ll steal it…
“There can be no better writer of modern sea adventure around today.”—Clive Cussler
When a daring nighttime penetration of Iran’s largest naval base goes wrong, Dan finds himself captaining a submarine he barely knows how to submerge—while being pursued by Iranian destroyers and sub-hunting aircraft through the hazardous Persian Gulf. Never mind the weapon and the balance of power in the Mideast. This time, Dan will be lucky to escape with his life…

Super Commander (Dan Lenson)
By Matt D.
I have read all of the Dan Lenson novels. In fact, I have read all of David Poyer's books. Commander Lenson needs a promotion and maybe a star after his nay-sayers are retired. I would like to see him bring along a young officer (maybe a long lost relative) and slow down his hyper pace.
Very good although, will wait and buy the next in the series.
By the way, one of my favorites of David Poyer's books is Down to a Sunless Sea. This is from one of his other series.

A nice change of pace from "Korea Strait"
By Dan Berger
Lenson and his secret TAG team are detailed to obtain - legally or not - a new Russian torpedo that is ultrafast. It can sink an aircraft carrier and might shift the world's naval balance of power. And the Russians are shopping it to any nation with cash as well.
Lenson first tries to buy it at an arms fair, but when that fails, he and his team travel halfway around the world to the jungles of Philippine islands in an attempt to steal one in transit. When that falters, they have no choice but to try a dicey mission into the belly of the enemy beast.
A good novel with varied sorts of action. The many locales are a nice change of pace from the dreary North Pacific monotony of "Korea Strait." It's a bit implausible, as it's hard to imagine Lenson and his technogeek squad being sent on the final mission instead of a SEAL team. But as the action unwinds the geeks prove their mettle.

The best Dan Lenson tale yet!
By Jack Winter
The Author manages to work three adventures into one tale, and they're all good. The hero's alcoholism and family issues are submerged to a more palatable level in this novel. Likewise Dan's antagonists within the Navy and the Government are more realistic, not so over the top as in the earlier works. As usual, Poyer's portrayal of technical details and realistic depictions of both special ops and war at sea are wonderful. I will continue to buy and read this series which gets better and better.
